Wednesday Jun 28, 2023
On this episode of the Duke Basketball Roundup, we are so honored to have a Duke Blue Devils legend join us for a thrilling conversation. It’s none other than Gene Banks!! One of the great players in Duke Basketball history, Gene Banks has an incredible story about being one of the first elite Black athletes to come to Duke to play basketball and how he ultimately made the decision to come to Duke.
We talk about Gene’s time at Duke, from playing in a national championship game to being a senior during Coach K’s first year as head coach. We also discuss his current ties to The Brotherhood and what he thinks about this upcoming team and Jon Scheyer so far as a head coach. We seriously could have talked basketball with Gene for hours, and we’re thrilled he took the time to join us!

#521 - NBA Draft and Goodbye to Amile
Sunday Jun 25, 2023
Sunday Jun 25, 2023
The Duke Basketball Roundup has a slew of stuff for you on this day. After the intros (in which we debate a huge travel decision facing Jason) the guys dive right in to the NBA Draft. They look at where Dereck Lively and Dariq Whitehead ended up and if those teams need them now or will bring the newest Dukies in the NBA along slowly. After a commercial break, the podcast gang laments the departure of Amile Jefferson, headed from the Duke bench to the NBA's Boston Celtics, and they take some guesses at who might be the next assistant coach in Durham. Lastly, Paolo Banchero has been added to the USA Basketball roster for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, a move that no one saw coming because Paolo had indicated he planned to play for Italy instead.

#520 - NBA Draft Preview - Part 2
Tuesday Jun 20, 2023
Tuesday Jun 20, 2023
The NBA Draft preview continues on Episode 520 of the Duke Basketball Roundup, and we welcome back Jay Bilas to the show to discuss Dereck Lively!
Lively is one that could have a lot of interest as we approach the draft, and Jay gives his take on what teams like in the 7’1” center. He gives us an interesting comparison to a current NBA champion center where Lively could have a similar trajectory.
Jay also talks to us about the consensus #1 pick in the NBA Draft, Victor Wembanyama. Is he truly the real deal? Bilas gives us his thoughts on the most heralded prospect in a long time.
After the break, Jason and Donald recap the discussion with Jay and also discuss some potential trades that could happen involving Duke players. The biggest potential move of the offseason could be Zion Williamson, who may no longer be with the New Orleans Pelicans by the time the draft concludes.
We’ll be back after the draft to recap it and see if any Duke players made a move. Until then, make sure you’re following us! #519 - NBA Draft Preview - Part 1
Sunday Jun 18, 2023
Sunday Jun 18, 2023
ESPN draft analyst and Duke legend Jay Bilas joins the Duke Basketball Roundup for a pair of episodes to look at the draft prospects of a pair of Dukies this year. In part 1, Jay talks to us about Dariq Whitehead and how he can stand out among a whole lot of mid-sized wings who are hoping to go in the middle of the first round of the NBA draft on Thursday. And while we have Jay joining us, we could not resist talking about the decisions by Flip, Proctor, Mitchell, and Roach to reject the siren song of the NBA and come back to Duke for another season. Jay breaks down what went into those decisions and what it means for Duke going forward.
By the way, there will be more Bilas coming to your podcast feed very soon. Later this week, he will join the DBR podcast team to break down Dereck Lively's draft prospects and also talk about the huge hype happening around Victor Wembanyama. If you have not subscribed to the DBR Podcast yet, now is the time to do it!

#518 - The Best Sophomores in Duke History
Saturday Jun 03, 2023
Saturday Jun 03, 2023
Wojo got a job, Duke is targeting a new big man in the high school ranks, but the main topic on this episode of the Duke Basketball Roundup is sophomores. Next year, Duke will be counting on 3 sophs (Flip, Mitchell, and Proctor) to help lead the team to the promised land of another Final Four (or Natty?!?!). The notion of stud sophomores is not something Duke fans have seen very often in the one-and-done era. So, the DBR Podcast's Jason Evans went back over the history books to find the 10 best Sophomore Seasons in Duke history (since the mid-1970s). It is a list full of great memories and the podcast gang knows you all will enjoy it.

DBR Bites #24 - Academic rising!
Wednesday May 24, 2023
Wednesday May 24, 2023
The Duke Blue Devils have been taking care of their business this semester in the classroom, and that plus ACC revenue sharing are the topics of dicussion on DBR Bites Episode 24.
A couple of episodes ago, we took the team to task for their APR rating falling down to the minimum standard. Well, we give them tons of kudos for having a great spring semester in the classroom, led by Kyle Filipowski’s 3.925 GPA! We quickly discuss the high marks for Duke Men’s Basketball and we congratulate them on a successful semester on the report card.
After the break, the ACC is discussing a chance in revenue sharing to allow teams who succeed in bowl games or advance far in the NCAA Tournament to get more of a split in conference revenues. We caution that while the current football powers may be excited about this, this gives incentive for Duke Football and others to continue to be successful in the gridiron in December/January and on the basketball court in March/April.
Finally, we’re proud to announce a new partnership with Homefield Apparel! #516 - Celebrate! Jeremy Roach returns!!
Monday May 15, 2023
Monday May 15, 2023
Jeremy Roach is returning for his senior season with the Duke Blue Devils, and we rejoice on Episode 516! The captain returns to hopefully help lead this team in its quest for a national championship, and we had to talk about what it means for Roach and for Duke. There’s nothing but positives on Jeremy Roach coming back and how the roster will benefit from it.
Also, Ernest Udeh is reported to be headed to Durham for a visit this week. We discuss how he would fit into the lineup as well as how Jon Scheyer can keep all of these scholarship players happy.
After the break, Jayson Tatum had a 51 point Game 7 for the Boston Celtics yesterday against the Philadelphia 76ers. That’s really good! In fact, it’s the best Game 7 ever! We had to discuss how great Tatum has been during the NBA playoffs. Finally, we end with some late-breaking news about conference realignment and how 7 ACC schools could be trying to figure out a way to break out of the conference’s grant-of-rights deal.
